Hi All
I just got a Celestron 6 SE scope and it came with a Glass solar filter made by Seymour Solar, Wondering are they good, bad or just dont use it are they safe to use never having looked at the sun before thought i might check to see if anyone here owns one or has used one.

cheers

A good thing to ask! You can never take sun safety too seriously, IMHO.

I'd never heard of them, but I did find this review on Cloudy Nights:

They are sold on Ebay, and have quite a range, but I have no experience of them.

They seem to be more popular in the US than anywhere else.

I have no experience with Seymour Solar, but I can provide some general glass solar filter info. I have Orion glass solar filter and the view is pretty good, you can see the sunspots move across the surface of the sun everyday. I enjoy looking at the sun and it is different to night time observing.

You did mention that you will leave it in the box for now. But in future if you do use it, take extra care and always check for any scratches or other issues before you start viewing.
