View Full Version here: : Maximum temperature record possibly broken for Sydney Airport 46.4C
It looks as if the record for the highest recorded temperature at Sydney Airport will
probably be broken today. At 14:32 it reached 46.4C.
I understand the previous record was only 45.2C
46.4C is 115.5F for readers who grew up with that scale.

I think you're right, according to this: http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/weatherData/av?p_nccObsCode=40&p_display_type=dataFile&p_startYear=&p_c=&p_stn_num=066037
And 45.3 at Sydney Obs, that's equal to the hottest ever recorded there!!
Hi Hugh,
45.3C at Observatory Hill was last reached 14 Jan 1939 and then only at the
end of a four day heatwave.
That record might get broken today too.

Well it's already been equaled, the Obs recorded 45.3 at 14:27 today!
Hi Hugh,
Yes, we've been watching it and monitoring the RFS web site at the same time.
For most Sydney-siders, it will be certainly the hottest day they have experienced here.
How about Penrith. 46.5C at 14:16.

You don't hear that often "I'm glad I live in Brisbane where it's nice and cool".
I'm currently staying in a B&B - without aircon. However it's an old building with lots of shade (from other buildings) around it. With the windows closed the heat hasn't been able to penetrate my room - though I am running short on oxygen....
