David, what do you mean by portable TV? Any particular size or other features?

My laptop has an 17" HD screen so would plugging in a USB HD decoder stick count?
Our several years old Toshiba 22" TV has builtin DVD and HD decoder and a 12V input, but isn't 1920x1080. They might now have a full HD model.

Don't forget to get a nice low noise 30 db pre-amp that will also run of the battery. Digital TV's need lots of signal. Most HD TV's work OK if you are within L of S of the TV tower but fail pretty quick once you lose this.

I Live in a rather poor signal area and a good outside aerial with Masthead amp is necessary. Many of the locals have trouble just moving the TV to another room even with a TV distribution system that has a masthead amp. This is usally recified with an additional amp at the wall socket.

If you can't find one, most set-top boxes I have seen run off 12v.
Add a computer monitor that also runs on 12v, with HDMI input and you're cooking.
I used to suggest this to traveling customers that used to come into Jaycar moaning about not being able to find 12v digital tv's.

Dave we have a 12V 19" led we picked up at JB HIFI for about $180.00 a couple of years ago that we use in the van.
You'll find most of the major dealers have 12V sets in the 17"-23" range at reasonable prices.
Ours works like a gem, Okano is the brand of it.

I don't think Dave really needs a portable TV. He is working on the reverse psychology that if he has an alternative to rain and clouds he can be assured of clear skies.:lol:

ta.

i just wanted a cheap small one with a battery. i went with the DS 7" version which was on special - and i know why - lol we had our analogue turned off last week and now its strictly digital. and i like watching the news (or listening to it) when i am waiting for the kids when they are at Scouts and guides. used to listen to NBN for the weather on FM92 but that is all part of history now. also may come in handy for some astro work...LOL as if - its just another gadget:rofl::thanx:
